Chalazion
- Focal granulomatous inflammation of the eyelids, which results from chronic meibomian glands obstruction
Clinical Features
- Unilateral, firm, nodular lesion within the tarsal plate
- The overlying skin may be hyperemic or normal in color
- Symptoms
- may be painless or tender
- visual distortion if the lesion grows towards the globe
Treatments
- Lid hygiene and warm compress
- Topical antibiotics or anti-inflammatory
- Systemic antibiotic i.e. doxycycline may be prescribed
- Surgical incision for persistent inflammation
