Blepharitis
Inflammation of the eyelid, which can be caused by infection, seborrhea or rosacea.
Clinical Features
- Symptoms: burning, itching, deposits or mattering of the lashes and foreign body sensation
- Signs:
- Erythema, thickening and telangiectasia of the lid margins
- May present with angular blepharitis
- Unstable tear film due to meibomian gland dysfunction
- May be complicated with superficial punctate keratitis, dry eye symptoms, corneal neovascularization, corneal infiltrates, trichiasis, poliosis and lash loss
Management
- Warm compresses
- Lid hygiene
- Topical antibiotics
- Topical steroids ointment for recalcitrant cases
