Retinal Detachment

• Usually classified into :
  • Rhegmatogenous detachment
  • Tractional detachment
  • Exudative detachment

Symptoms

• Blurry or various degree of decreased visual acuity
• Visual field loss
• Photopsia (subjective visualization of flashing lights)
• Some conditions or pathologies that may predispose to retinal detachments are: trauma, cataract extraction, ora bays, meridional folds, cystic retinal tufts, lattice degeneration and retinoschisis.

Risk Factors

• Myopic eyes
• Family history of retinal detachment
• Vitreoretinal syndrome such as Stickler's syndrome
• Aphakia
