Trichiasis
- Acquired condition in which the eyelashes are misdirected and grow inwards towards the globe without altering the normal lid position.
- Results in continuous rubbing of the conjunctiva and cornea by the lashes and may result in corneal abrasion and ulceration.
- Commonly seen in cicatrical pemphigoid, trachoma, chronic blepharitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome and alkaline burn.
- Treatment includes epilation, electrolysis, laser thermoablation, cryotherapy, and resection of the lash follicles.
