Meesmann's

• Autosomal dominantly inherited and also called juvenile hereditary epithelial dystrophy.

Clinical Features

• Symptoms:
  • Foreign body sensation due to epithelial erosion may occur as the cysts begin to rupture onto the ocular surface
  • Decreased visual acuity is usually minimal
• Signs:
  • Myriads of tiny intraepithelial cysts that are most prominently seen in the interpalpebral zone
  • Slowly progressive rare condition
  • Bilateral, symmetric and may develops in the first 1 or 2 years of life

Treatment

• Superficial corneal debridement
• Photo therapeutic keratectomy maybe required in patient with severe recurrent erosions or reduced visual function.
