Intravitreous Depo Steroid Injection
- Intravitreal steroid injection has been used as an experimental treatment option for various retinal diseases such as:
- Proliferative vitreoretinopathy
- Exudative age-related macular degeneration
- Refractory uveitis
- Macular edema secondary to central/branch retinal vein occlusionÂ
- Birdshot retinochoroidopathy
- Hypotony
- Cystoid macular edema
- Diabetic macular edema
- Refractory macular edema of various etiologies
- Proven to be effective and safe without direct toxic effect to the optic nerve and retina.
- Reinjection may be necessary in refractory cases to achieve better result.
- Complications may include increased intraocular pressure, development of cataract and endophthalmitis.
