Training and Education

The Training & Education Workgroup is dedicated to integrating artificial intelligence into the core medical education experience. By developing a longitudinal AI curriculum, we can ensure that future physicians are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to understand, apply, evaluate, and even create AI-driven tools in clinical practice. Our goal is to seamlessly embed AI literacy into the world-class training received by Columbia VP&S medical students, empowering them to navigate an evolving healthcare landscape with confidence and expertise.

This workgroup brings together a diverse team of faculty from clinical departments, experts in biomedical informatics, education technology specialists, medical school leadership, and medical students. Together, it will design and deliver best-in-class educational development programs that enhance both student learning and educator success. It will also establish foundational AI training resources for broad use across Columbia’s medical center, ensuring that clinicians and educators have the tools they need to integrate AI effectively into their practice and teaching.

Through this initiative, the Training & Education Workgroup can foster a new generation of AI-literate physicians who can critically evaluate emerging technologies, leverage AI to enhance patient care, and drive innovation in medical education. Embedding AI into Columbia’s educational framework will prepare our students to lead in an era where AI is central to clinical decision-making, operational efficiency, and the future of medicine.
