Living Independently is For Everyone (LIFE) Program
The Living Independently is For Everyone (LIFE) Program is a metacognitive strategy-training intervention designed to improve shopping performance in adults with intellectual disability secondary to Down syndrome. It consists of eight 90-minute intervention sessions that occur in community-based settings on a weekly basis. Detailed information about the LIFE Program—including descriptions of essential program elements, techniques to facilitate specific shopping skills, suggested outcome measures, and weekly intervention session content—can be obtained by accessing the manual.
The manual is copyrighted by the authors, Dr. Katherine V. O'Neill and Dr. Sharon A. Gutman, but can be downloaded for free. It is intended for use by occupational therapists and other program administrators who wish to implement the LIFE Program within their respective communities.
