COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This one-day online course will focus on the comprehensive clinical management of common shoulder pathologies, including rotator cuff tendinopathies, frozen shoulder, fractures and arthroplasties. This course will offer participants a unique learning opportunity that will dramatically increase their comfort level across all aspects of management of patients with shoulder disorders. Applied clinically relevant review of anatomy, biomechanics, etiology and pathophysiology will provide a foundation and framework of knowledge that will serve as a guide to management. Detailed discussions about evaluation/assessment, including differential diagnosis, will be supported with a strong emphasis/focus on interpretation of results and how it translates into and guides clinical decision making. Discussions about specific treatment interventions will always be supported by the rationale and justification for use and the specific criteria for progression of treatment. Clinical anatomic and biomechanical correlations, as well as case studies and videos, will be used frequently throughout the course to reinforce material. Intended audience: Occupational Therapy Practitioners and Physical Therapy Practitioners.
COURSE OBJECTIVES - At the conclusion of this session, the participants will:
Understand clinically relevant and applied knowledge of the anatomy & biomechanics of the shoulder complex
Make correlations and predictions about the clinical impact and manifestation of pathoanatomy and pathomechanics on shoulder function
Develop a thorough understanding of the etiology and pathophysiology of rotator cuff disorders, frozen shoulder, fractures and arthroplasties and their impact on function
Describe an in-depth understanding of the evaluation of the shoulder complex, including differential diagnosis and assessment of occupational performance
Develop the ability to accurately interpret results of assessment techniques
Describe sound clinical reasoning and logic that serves as a guide for intervention planning
Demonstrate an increase comfort level in managing patients with shoulder disorders
