Harlem Hospital Center

Didactic Curriculum

The didactic curriculum includes:

  • Daily morning clinical conferences from NYU, the University of California San Francisco, the University of Chicago, and the Association of University Radiologists (AUR).
  • Noon and/or afternoon clinical conferences at Harlem Hospital Center
  • Afternoon lectures with visiting professors/invited speakers
  • Weekly multidisciplinary tumor board conferences
  • Yearly physics curriculum from Memorial Sloan Kettering
  • Four-week course in Radiologic Pathology, ACR Institute for Radiologic Pathology - virtual or in person.

First Year: PGY-2

Focuses on teaching the basics of diagnostic radiology interpretation as well as preparing residents for resident call beginning in the second half of first year. Residents begin by shadowing more senior residents on rotations, and residents will do practice calls with a senior resident in the fall. Residents have 24/7 radiology attending supervision on all rotations.

Second Year: PGY-3

Focuses on more advanced imaging and further development of diagnostic radiology skills to encourage more independent practice. Residents will also rotate at Lincoln Hospital and Jacobi Medical Center.

Third Year: PGY-4

The residents will take the ABR Core Examination at the end of the third year of radiology training. Multiple board review sessions are provided to help prepare for the exam. All PGY-4 residents attend the American Institute for Radiologic Pathology (AIRP) four-week course either in the summer/fall or late winter. Residents also have the opportunity option to attend one of several week-long radiology review courses (Duke, NYRS) in the spring.

Fourth Year: PGY-5

The PGY-5 year provides residents with an opportunity to spend more time in a discipline of their choosing via extra rotations in the resident’s chosen specialty if desired.
