Quality Metrics: Reductions in Medical Malpractice Costs

  • The 2016 medical malpractice renewal premium will decline by 4.0% following a similar 4% reduction in 2015.
  • Columbia’s projected calendar year 2015 highlights:
    • Incurred losses are projected to be 20% below the actuarial estimate and 22% below last year.
    • Paid losses are projected to be 49% below 2014.
    • MCIC safety programs (OB, ED, surgery) continue with positive results.
  • Over the past 7 years, ColumbiaDoctors’ premium has decreased by 21% adjusted for exposure growth.
