We are delighted to share that Jatin Vyas, MD, PhD, will serve as a Professor of Medicine, Associate Dean for Academic Innovation, and Director of Physician-Scientist Programs at the Vagelos Institute for Biomedical Research Education effective October 7th, 2024. Dr. Vyas has served as both a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and as a Physician for the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has also served as a Program Director of Internal Residency at MassGeneral, a program consisting of 207 residents and 514 fellows- the largest training program of its kind in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He received the Outstanding Program Director Award from MassGeneral Brigham in 2022 and the 2025 Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine/APDIM Distinguished University Medical Educator Award. During his tenure, he secured 3 NIH grants that helped support the training of Physician Scientists.

In his new roles, Dr. Vyas will cultivate excitement around research by determining the research needs of MD & PhD students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. He plans on developing a framework where we can use the Department’s resources to better support our physician-scientists. As our Associate Dean for Academic Innovation and Director of Physician Scientist Programs, he intends to promote an environment of scientific inquiry throughout the department. It is his goal to support physicians in transforming the way we think about diseases and deliver care. We are excited by his vision and are confident he will help us achieve the Department of Medicine's goals of excellence in clinical care, research, education, and community service.
