Overview
Dr. Sam Sawade is a board certified clinical specialist in pediatric physical therapy. She received her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Columbia University, and completed a post-doctoral LEND Fellowship (Leadership and Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities) and ABPTRFE-accredited residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado and Children's Hospital Colorado. Although a general practitioner in pediatric physical therapy, Dr. Sawade has developed particular expertise in pediatric amplified musculoskeletal pain syndromes, and in promotion and facilitation of participation in adapted sports for children with disabilities.
As an Assistant Professor in the Programs in Physical Therapy at Columbia University, Dr. Sawade primarily teaches in the pediatrics and gross anatomy courses. She is also the faculty sponsor for the CUDPT Physical Therapy Community Action Network (PT CAN), the community service arm of the Programs in Physical Therapy, which includes pro bono clinic experiences, Anatomy Academy, and the Lang Youth Medical Outreach. Dr. Sawade remains active in research of adapted sports for children, pediatric pain syndromes, and evaluating the impact of ableism in the health professions.
