Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Mission 

The mission of the Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine DEI committee is to enhance a culture of inclusive excellence. We are committed to a bias-free and diverse community of scientists, clinicians, educators, students, and staff.  We strive to improve access and support individuals with both visible and invisible disabilities. We collaborate to promote anti-racist practices and institutional approaches that support equity and inclusion and eliminate structural barriers to meaningful change.

Vision

The vision of the Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine DEI committee is to cultivate a culture of inclusive excellence.  To be a department where diversity and inclusion are an inextricable part of transformational change for patients, students, faculty, staff, and the community.

Goals

  • Provide the highest quality care to all patients
  • Advance the science and practice of rehabilitation and regenerative medicine through research
  • Educate students, trainees, and practitioners to become leaders in rehabilitation medicine
  • Support faculty, students, trainees, and staff in their clinical practice and academic activities
  • Provide a supportive work environment that promotes personal and professional growth, safety, and well-being
  • Build a bias-free and diverse community and eliminate structural barriers that perpetuate inequities
  • Advocate for equity and inclusion for people of all backgrounds and identities, including a focus on people with disabilities
  • Support the missions of Columbia University, the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital
