Pediatric Dentistry Program
Harlem Hospital Center welcomes your interest in applying to our Pediatric Residency Program. At our program, you will gain hands-on experience, clinic, and didactic knowledge under the direction of a well-qualified attending staff.
The Harlem Hospital Dental Department provides a rich clinical experience with opportunities to improve patient care strategies. These programs prepare residents to be successful in urban, rural, or hospital/clinical atmosphere.
Our Mission
Our Mission at Health and Hospitals Harlem Department of Dentistry is to provide safe, efficient, and comprehensive Dental care to the Harlem and surrounding communities. This Mission is carried out by partnering with the community to reduce Dental Healthcare disparities by providing access to care.
Curriculum and Program Design
Clinical curriculum includes:
- Clinical practice in pediatric dentistry
- Preventive and interceptive orthodontics
- Nitrous oxide/oxygen psychosedation
- Care for the disabled child
- Pediatric anesthesia and operating room protocol
- Oral conscious sedation
- Pediatric dentistry instruction
- Pediatric oral trauma management
The didactic curriculum includes:
- Pediatric dentistry theory
- Pediatric dentistry literature review
- Research methodology
- Oral medicine
- Oral pathology
- Orthodontics
- Preceptorship
- Cardiology
- Pediatric medicine
- Methodology in preventive dentistry
- Advanced pediatric dental research
Rotations
Residents spend two weeks on rotations in pediatric medicine, emergency services, and one month in anesthesia.
Research Requirement
Residents are required to do a research project based on patient evaluation and analysis.
