Supplies and Setup
Supplies
- Gauze pad (we prefer a single layer of this type over standard woven gauze)
- Marking pen
- Stay suture
- Shape templates:
Lightning.pdf
Gingerbread person.pdf
Umbrella.pdf
Set up
- Trace the shapes on 3 separate gauze pads
- Attach each gauze pad at one end to a fixed post with a single stay suture, like pages in a book.
Objectives
Primary objectives
- Cut out the designated shapes in the following order:
- Lightning bolt
- Umbrella
- Gingerbread man
Technical objectives
- Precise cutting: cut in the middle of the line
Scoring Rubric
How long did it take you to complete all three shapes?
- Under 10 minutes (25 points)
- 10-15 minutes (20 points)
- 15-20 minutes (15 points)
- 20-25 minutes (10 points)
- 25-30 minutes (5 points)
- >30 minutes (0 points)
Answer the following questions for each shape you completely cut out in 20 minutes or less.
Is there ink on every margin of your shape?
- Yes (13 points)
- My shape has 1-2 small white edges (8 points)
- My shape has 3-5 small white edges OR 1-2 long white edges (4 points)
- My shape has mostly white edges (0 points)
Answer the following questions for each shape you completely cut out in 20 minutes or less.
Is your shape stretched or torn?
- No (20 points)
- Yes, the fibers are visibly stretched in at least one place but not torn (10 points)
- Yes, my shape is torn in at least one place (0 points)
